Daniels stays with NFL team

Jace Daniels

It was quite the up and down weekend for former Northern Michigan University offensive lineman Jace Daniels.

On Saturday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers cut the former NMU football player. NFL rules require each of the 32 teams to trim their roster from 70 players to 53 players after the final week of the preseason. Daniels appeared in all four of the Buccaneers preseason games at center.

Then on Sunday, just one day after releasing him, the Bucs re-signed Daniels and placed him on the practice squad. Daniels is one of eight members of the Bucs’ practice squad.

The Escanaba native will not be able to suit up for the Buccaneers for their regular season games just yet. He must first be placed on the 53-man roster in order for that to happen.

Back in May, Daniels worked out for Tampa Bay at the Buccaneers rookie mini camp. The team then signed him to a contract and placed him on the 90-man roster.

The Buccaneers begin the regular season on Sunday, Sept. 8 against the New York Jets.
