Dairy Queen breaks ground for summer opening

MARQUETTE — Ice cream lovers will soon have another place to get their favorite delicious frozen treats.

Two Ishpeming natives are building a Dairy Queen right next to Target in Marquette Township.

The store’s co–owners, Steve Tasson and Kevin Swanson, have been working with Dairy Queen to build a franchise for more than a year.
Now, in just a matter of months, what was once a dream will come true, with the construction of a twenty six hundred foot ice cream facility.

“We feel that the food menu that Diary Queen offers is something that people will really embrace,” said Steve Tasson, the co–owner of Dairy Queen. “Their food menu is extremely, extremely becoming well–known, especially with the roll out of the DQ Bakes. We’re also hoping to expand on and provide people in this area with their ice cream cakes and their regular cakes.”

Tasson says the plan is to have Dairy Queen open to the public by the middle of August.

The new ice cream franchise in the U.P. is looking to hire between seventy and seventy–five people.
