Crews load fireworks for Fourth of July celebration
MARQUETTE — It was a busy morning at Marquette’s Lower Harbor as crews prepared for the upcoming Fourth of July celebration.
Crews from the 652nd Engineering Detachment of the U.S. Army Reserve and Great Lakes Fireworks, LLC, began loading up the seventeen hundred rockets that will be fired off during Saturday night’s celebration. A barge was filled with numerous fireworks tubes and equipment and sent across the harbor to be unloaded at the Ore Dock.
“This is a good time, and it’s going to be a good show,” said Jerry Irby, who volunteers to help with setting up the fireworks. “I always say ‘boom, boom, boom,’ because you’re going to hear a lot of that in the air. Come and have a good time. Bring your family. We’re celebrating our country. We’re celebrating our flag. We’re celebrating who we are. We have all the things that make America great. This is what we’re celebrating.”
The fireworks start at dusk on the Fourth of July. Organizers expect that between twenty and thirty thousand people will come to the area to see the show. They also say visitors can expect some surprises this time around.
The show will be choreographed to music again this year.
