LANSING — Legislation that would give county boards of commissioners an additional tool to help fix area roads is moving forward.
Senate Bill 729 was unanimously approved by the state Senate today. The bill would give county boards the authority to loan money to townships within their county to fund road construction projects or provide matching dollars for joint projects. The bill’s primary sponsor, Senator Wayne Schmidt (R-Traverse City), says the bill would help save taxpayer dollars and could help get projects completed sooner as well.
The legislation will now move on to the House of Representatives.
