Counterfeit cash investigation leads to arrest

HOUGHTON — A Hancock man was arrested after an investigation into counterfeit money this past weekend.

Officers from the Houghton Police Department say 26-year-old Nicholas Edwards was arrested after police received a complaint about suspected counterfeit cash from a local business on Sunday. The investigation resulted in police obtaining a search warrant for a residence in Hancock, where a large amount of counterfeit money was seized.

Edwards is charged with counterfeiting – possession of coins, which is a felony punishable by up to life in prison. He is lodged in the Houghton County Jail. He was arraigned in Houghton County District Court and is scheduled to appear again on December 14th.
