MARQUETTE — The Economic Club of Marquette has seen many great speakers, from the President of Northern Michigan University to the Mayor of Detroit.
Tonight, they heard from yet another big name. Douglas George is the Canadian Consul General in Detroit. He’s responsible for diplomatic relations in Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana and has served as far as Kuwait and Jamaica. George is widely recognized as one of Canada’s top trade policy experts.
“Canada is the United States’ biggest customer. You sell more to us than to any other country in the world. You’re our biggest customer, so we’re each very important to each other when it comes to trade,” said George, “We have a joint economy and the more we can trade efficiently with each other, the better we’re positioned to compete with the rest of the world.”
George spoke on a number of topics, included security and defense, increasing efficiency at the border, and environmental stewardship. He also stressed the importance of the two countries continuing to work together for the prosperity of citizens on both sides of the border.
