Construction-palooza gets kids to use their creativity skills
Kids showcased their creativity at the U.P. Children’s Museum for Construction-palooza.
It was part of the museum’s Second Thursday Creativity Series, aiming to get kids to think outside of the box. Stations were set up across the museum with activities for kids to construct, including using frosting as cement to create structures out of pretzels and other food, Lego building, making Mother’s Day cards, and painting.
“Every year, my youth empowerment programming teams sit down, and we think about everything that was successful last year, and then everything that we know from our experiences in working with kids that kids like to do to,” U.P. Children’s Museum director Nheena Weyer Ittner said.
The creativity series is aimed for kids up to age 10, but all ages are still welcome to join in on the fun.
Each month the series has a new theme with different projects and games for kids to play.
“We have a real commitment to teaching through play and understanding the value of what you learn when you play,” Weyer Ittner said. “Also creativity. Me, being an artist, the arts are always important to me so finding different kinds of art forms and letting the kids be exposed to different arts are really important.”
June’s creativity series theme is Planes.
