Colla leads NMU women past Tiffin
TIFFIN, Ohio — The Northern Michigan University women’s basketball team rolled to a 83-70 win over Tiffin in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action Friday.
The Wildcats improved to 5-4 on the season with a 3-2 record in league play. Tiffin fell to 2-9 on the season with a 1-4 record in GLIAC play.
Three Wildcats scored in double-digits to lead NMU to victory. Senior guard Alyssa Colla scored a game-high 26 points to lead NMU. Senior guard Lauren Gruber and senior center Courtney Lemon also chipped in 18 for the Wildcats. Lemon also led NMU on the boards, pulling down eight rebounds.
The Wildcats shot 53.8-percent from the floor in the first half and connected on 3-6 from three-point range. A pair of free throws by Colla with five-seconds left in the half gave the Wildcats a 38-37 lead at the break. Colla scored 14 points in the first half and Lemon added 10.
Back-to-back layups by Gruber at 12:29 and 11:47 and a three-pointer by Lemon at 10:59 gave NMU a 60-57 lead, a lead which they never relinquished. NMU finished the game on a 5-0 run on layups from Lemon and junior forward Nea Makela.
NMU finished the game shooting 54.5-percent from the floor connecting on 30-55 of their attempts from the field. NMU went 5-17 from three-point range and were 18-23 from the charity stripe.
Jordan Fraley led the Dragons with 22 points while Kaylee Patton added 18 and Anya Misko had 11.
NMU returns to acton at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Ohio Dominican.
