According to Mackinac Bridge Authority, the bridge is now open to through traffic. According to their website drivers should still watch for falling ice while crossing.
ST. IGNACE — According to the Mackinac Bridge Authority, the bridge is currently closed to all traffic. The closure was announced at approximately 11:30 a.m. (EST) and is expected to take place for roughly two to four hours.
The closure is due to ice is falling from the cables and towers on to the bridge. Motorists who are approaching the bridge are advised to reduce their speed to 20 miles-per-hour and be prepared to stop.
Bridge personnel are stationed at both ends of the structure to provide instructions.
The Mackinac Bridge Authority is monitoring the conditions at various points along the structure. When conditions improve, the bridge will be re-opened to traffic.
