Closed-Door Ishpeming City Council Meeting

The Ishpeming City Council held an early-morning closed session meeting today, but no action was taken.

The meeting centered around the dismissal of the city’s former police chief.

Jim Bjorne led the Ishpeming Police Department for more than 20 years.

He has also worked for the Marquette County Sheriff’s Department and had requested that his service time with the county be rolled into and included with his city service time.

If the two were combined, Chief Bjorne would have been able to retire from the Ishpeming Police with a full pension earlier this year.

He was fired last month and says he plans to file suit against the city.

The council met in closed session for about an hour this morning.

Members of the council said after the closed session that they’ve decided against any formal action at this time.
