Clean Snowmobile Challenge At MTU

Michigan Tech is one of four schools to have their snowmobile completed the Endurance Run to Copper Harbor.

Twelve snowmobiles began the event at the SAE Clean Snowmobile Challenge which began at the Keweenaw Research Center.

The other schools to complete the trek were Clarkson University, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.

The Clean Snowmobile Challenge Ais a collegiate design competition of the Society of Automotive Engineers. Engineering students from participating schools take a stock snowmobile and reengineer it to try and reduce emissions and noise and increase fuel efficiency while preserving the riding excitement demanded by snowmobile enthusiasts.

The sleds will be on display today from 6 to 8 pm at the Copper Country Mall where everyone is invited to view the entries and talk with the participants about their design strategies.
