City of Hancock receives USDA grant for new police vehicle

The City of Hancock has been given $15,000 in federal grants to help purchase a new police vehicle for the community. The funding comes from the USDA’s Rural Development Community Facility Grant program, which funds critical infrastructure within rural communities across the country.

U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow, Chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, announced her support for the decision earlier today.

“Our first responders provide invaluable services to communities like the City of Hancock throughout Michigan,” said Senator Stabenow. “With many rural Michigan communities facing serious budget cuts, this support is especially important. Today’s announcement reinforces the partnership between our local communities and rural development, which helps to maintain the quality of life across Michigan.”

City officials say they are contributing $23,000 to the cause and should make a decision on which vehicle to purchase by the end of the summer.
