MARQUETTE — The City of Marquette is getting a little closer to having a brand new hospital.

The Marquette City Commission heard a presentation from UP Health System on how the planning process is going for the new hospital. Right now, UP Health System is working on a purchase agreement for the land for the new building and have finalized funding for the project.

“The point of the presentation today is to start the process of opening up a line of communications with the City Commission on a more regular, structured basis. We really appreciate the support from the community and we think that we have every capability available to us to disseminate information,” said Jim Bogan, the UP Health System Market President

Bogan says once they put the shovel in the ground, it’ll take about 28 months to complete the new hospital. He hopes to start building on May first.
