City Commission Approves Letter of Credit

The Marquette City Commission unanimously approved a 10 year letter of credit for wetland mitigation but it had some Commissioners asking why it was needed in the first place.

The planned Mclellan Avenue extension from Fair Avenue to Wright Street required a Michigan Department of Environmental Quality permit to fill one point one acres of wetlands.

Part of the permit also requires the city to restore wetlands on site as well as at the presque isle bog and monitor the restored areas.

The commissioners approved a ten year letter of credit through Range Bank in the amount $157,400 needed for financial assurance.

The cost for the letter of credit will be just over $1,500.
