The Vista Theater in Negaunee is premiering a musical that just ended its run on Broadway.

It’s a modern take on a fairy tale that audiences young and old will be familiar with. The players will be bringing Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “Cinderella” to Negaunee for a spirited take on the age-old tale.

One of the differences between the original and the modern retelling is Cinderella herself.

“In this version she has a spine,” Miranda Roose, who plays Cinderella, said, “so she stands up for herself, but she also gets to figure out that wishing doesn’t always count, and you have to take action once you do.”

Director Al Keefer said, “It adds the animals in this one where in the old one they don’t have the mice, and the bird and the cat.”

The newer version also contains more humor as well as lavish set designs and costumes. The cast and crew are excited to deliver a fast-paced show.

“If you really like a big show that has great costumes, and set pieces, and comedy, music and dance, this show has something for everybody,” Keefer said.

The show opens tonight at 7:30 and runs through the 24th, with 7:30 p.m. shows each Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and matinees at 2 p.m. each Sunday.
