Ciffs receives Distinguished Service Award
Cliffs Natural Resources announced today that it has been awarded the 2012 Distinguished Service Award from Marquette County’s Lake Superior Community Partnership (LSCP). The award recognizes companies and individuals who make significant investments and economic impact in the community and to the LSCP.
“Cliffs has been a critical part of our economic base for so many years and we’re proud to have such an outstanding corporate citizen in our community, “said Amy Clickner, CEO, Lake Superior Community Partnership. “Cliffs demonstrates a commitment to their core values and it shows through their generosity and support.”
Cliffs Natural Resources is the second largest employer in Marquette County, providing jobs to more than 1,600 people at the Empire and Tilden mines, the LS&I Railroad and the Cliffs Technology Center. In 2012, Cliffs had an economic impact of $879 million which includes annual payroll, services and supplies and local taxes. In addition, between local mine contributions, the Cliffs Foundation and the company’s United Way campaign, including employee pledges and a company match, Cliffs donated nearly $430,000 to the local community.
“This award is a reflection of our commitment to our employees and the community,” said James Kochevar, general manager, Cliffs Michigan Operations. “We’re proud to be able to provide support to organizations that help make our community a great place to live and we thank the LSCP for this recognition.”
The award was presented during the Lake Superior Community Partnership’s Annual Dinner held at Northern Michigan University on Friday, March 8.
