ISHPEMING — Students at Ishpeming Middle School received a few nice gifts from a local church today.

NORTHIRON Church had a new pair of shoes for every middle school student. Members of the church first came to the school two months ago and recorded shoe sizes of every student.

The church partnered with an organization called ‘Convoy of Hope’ to give away 250 pairs of kicks.

“We just wanted to find a way that we can partner with the schools in our community to help out,” said Travis Ryan, a pastor at the church. “We can continue to partner with this program and do this for all of the local area schools that qualify and we’ll do that on a yearly basis. It’s really awesome to be here in the community; doing something, being active and helping people out.”

“It was really nice of them to donate the shoes,” said Ava Asgaard, an 8th grader at Ishpeming Middle School. “I’m going to wear them. They’re nice.”

In addition to receiving a new pair of shoes, church volunteers served up popcorn and cotton candy to the kids at lunchtime.

Convoy of Hope is a humanitarian organization that has helped more than seventy million people around the world.
