Church Embezzler Pleads Guilty

An Ontonagon man pleads guilty in an embezzlement case involving a great deal of money from area churches.

Gerhardt Gollakner has pleaded guilty to attempted embezzlement of $50,000 to $100,000.

State police from the Ontonagon Detachment arrested him 5 months ago.

He’d been accused of embezzling more than $100,000 but admitted to a lesser charge.

Police say the losses occurred over several years at 3 Ontonagon-area churches.

Gollakner was an agent or servant at all 3 of them.

He could face up to 5 years in prison, and he’ll be sentenced on May 27th.
