Christmas Weekend Traffic Accident Figures

The Michigan State Police say preliminary reports indicate four people lost their lives in four separate traffic crashes during the 2012 Operation CARE Lifesaver holiday weekend.

Alcohol was a known factor in three of the four fatal crashes.

Three of the four victims were not using seat belts.

Eight people died in eight separate traffic crashes during the same period last year.

More than 100 law enforcement agencies are participating in the Operation CARE drunk driving crackdown that runs through January 1st.

That includes increased Michigan State Police patrols in Chippewa, Delta, Houghton and Marquette counties.
