Christmas Recycling

You may have bags and bags of paper and boxes from Christmas, and if you do, you can likely recycle some of it instead of just throwing it away.

The Marquette County Solid Waste Management Authority is improving its recycling program.

A new recycling effort keeps many items from just ending up in the landfill.

Authority director Rick Aho says recyclable materials are collected using a dual stream system; fiber material is collected one week and rigid material the following week.

Fiber materials consist of paper products.

Rigid materials contain plastic, metal and glass, but not all plastic materials are accepted.

Aho says plastic bags and foam materials cannot be recycled.
