Chocolay PD cruiser involved in vehicular accident sending two to MGH

According to sources close to the victim, Andrew Mills of Marquette was driving north on US 41 towards South Lake Street Friday night around 6:30 p.m. when he collided with a Chocolay Police car.

The Chocolay cruiser reportedly pulled out into the path of Mills from South Lake Street before sending his Mercury Milan into oncoming traffic where a truck hit the vehicle again. The car then allegedly spun into another vehicle traveling in the southbound lane.

Sources say the Chocolay Police officer was transporting a teen to the youth home who he had just apprehended on South Lake Street for allegedly stealing a car. Both Mills and the teen passenger were injured in the crash, and taken by ambulance to Marquette General Hospital.

According to eyewitnesses, after the accident, the officer is said to have admitted fault saying he never saw Mills’ vehicle. However, the investigation is still ongoing.

Mills is now home recovering from neck and back pain. The status of the other injured teen is unknown.

ABC 10 will have more information about the accident when more information is made available.
