Chippewa County barn fire kills livestock

SAULT STE. MARIE — A few animals were killed in a Monday night barn fire in Chippewa County.

The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office responded to a fire on 4883 S. Mackinac Trail in Sault Ste. Marie for a structure fire just before midnight.  When officers arrived, they found a barn fully engulfed in flames.

A few of the farm’s horses and goats were able to escape the fire, but other animals were not.

The Soo Township, Dafter, and Bruce Township Fire Departments all responded to the scene.
