MARQUETTE — A lot of exciting renovations have begun at the Upper Peninsula Children’s Museum in Marquette.

Among other structural and display improvements, the Children’s Museum is in the process of completely ripping down the old siding that’s been in place for over twenty years. They will be dressing their facade to a level of historical integrity that blends in with the rest of downtown Marquette.

“We took a lot of the architectural elements of the cornices with the round windows and some of the borders along the top of the building and we’re going to actually kind of re–create them,” said Upper Peninsula Children’s Museum Founder and Director Nheena Weyer Ittner.

The grant money for this project was received through the Eagle Mine Cliffs Marquette County Community Fund. Closner Construction won the bid for the project, and is expected to be done with this phase of the Children’s Museum renovations sometime this summer.
