Children’s Museum Celebrity Art Auction
Local celebrities are exercising their creativity while helping out a local nonprofit group. The Upper Peninsula Children’s Museum is hosting its tenth annual Celebrity Art Auction Thursday night.
Museum staff members have asked local celebrities to donate pieces of art to be auctioned off. Proceeds from the auction will help fund day-to-day operations at the museum. The additional funding allows the museum to continue to provide activities for children in the area, including an array of fascinating exhibits.
“We’re in the process of fundraising, and we’re going to completely gut the body exhibit,” said Nheena Weyer Ittner, Director of the U.P. Children’s Museum. “So, we’ll leave the big head and we’ll leave the slide-down intestine, but everything in the middle is going to get gutted out and changed. It’ll be really cool.”
Admission is free, and visitors are likely to leave well-fed. Several local businesses have helped out by providing food for the event.
“The Wild Rover will provide appetizers. Sayklly’s will provide the delectable chocolate fountain. Super One Foods has provided us all of the dippers to go into the chocolate fountain,” Weyer Ittner said.
Viewing of the celebrity art starts at 5:30 p.m. The auction will follow at 7:00.
