Child Sexual Abuse Trial Date Set

A Marquette man will go to trial next year for child sexual abuse.

28–year–old Axel Acevedo is scheduled to go to trial on April 23rd.

He’s accused of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, second degree CSC and accosting a child for immoral purposes.

The investigation began when the Marquette Police learned that Acevedo was a sex offender who had not registered his whereabouts in the city.

Police notified people at the home where Acevedo had been staying about his offender status.

The mother of a 12–year–old boy living in that home later brought her son to the police, saying the boy may have been assaulted.

Acevedo is in the Marquette County Jail on $650,000 bond.

NMU Public Safety has assisted in the investigation, which is still ongoing.

Police say there may be additional victims.
