Charges filed in suspicious package case

Charges have been filed against a 16-year-old boy in connection with a suspicious package that was found Monday. The Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office says the Forsyth Township teenager’s charge is related to a false bomb threat.

Police received a call just after 6:00 p.m. Monday night about a suspicious package that was found at the Ultra Clean Laundromat on Stephenson Avenue in Gwinn. A bomb squad found the package and determined that it did not present a danger to the public, but authorities say the package was positioned and designed to look like an explosive device. Police say the package contained electrical components and was wrapped in plastic.

Charges may be filed against a person of interest in the investigation. Yesterday the Forsyth Township Police Department obtained a search warrant at a residence and obtained items that may have been used. The evidence has been sent to the Michigan State Police Forensic Lab in Marquette.
