MARQUETTE — The Michigan Natural Resources Commission made a big decision Thursday about deer hunting season.

The Commission has decided to eliminate the harvest of antlerless deer during archery season for hunters using deer or deer combo licenses in the Upper Peninsula.

The restriction will be in place for the 2015-2016 season.

The past few winters have been extremely hard on the deer population, which prompted the decision. Firearm season will not be affected by the change. Hunters who have already purchased their tags can return them for a refund before the season starts.
