Celebrating the U.P.’s environment

The special elements of the Upper Peninsula’s natural world are being celebrated in Marquette this weekend.

The U.P. Environmental Coalition is holding its fifth annual Celebrate The U.P. event.

Former coalition president Jon Saari says the director of the state Audubon Society opens things tonight with a talk about bird conservation in the U.P.

Saari says the coalition wants to use the event to reach out to some new members.

The Peter White Public Library and the Landmark Inn are hosting many events all day tomorrow.

They deal with topics from the 1600s French fur trade to harvesting wood biomass today.

Celebrate The U.P. closes tomorrow with a reception from 5 to 7 pm at the Marquette Federated Women’s Clubhouse.

The Environmental Coalition held a board meeting at the clubhouse this afternoon in advance of the event.
