Casual for a Cause to help fund memory care devices

MARQUETTE — A local assisted living center is encouraging their employees to dress down for a dollar.

Brookridge Assisted Living and Memory Care is holding a fundraiser called Casual for a Cause to raise funds for a Life Tracker Program. Employees pay a dollar to wear jeans to work any day of the week.

The assisted living community will donate the funds to the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Marquette County – also known as RSVP – to cover the monthly fee associated with Life Tracker bracelets.

The bracelets have a tracking device in them to help find loved ones with dementia or Alzheimer’s who may have wandered off. Executive Director Neal Crothers knows first hand how useful the device can be.

Crothers says, “From a personal perspective, it was very successful on my grandmother when she had dementia, when she wandered off one day herself, and they were able to use the Life Tracker and be able to track her down when she did wander. So it brings it to home very nicely for me.”
