WATERSMEET — The Lac Vieux Desert Hotel is open again for business, one week after officials closed it down due to bacteria that was found in the hotel’s water.
Officials immediately closed the hotel after it was discovered that a previous guest at the hotel was diagnosed with Legionnaire’s disease. Testing found the presence of legionella bacteria in some of the hotel’s water sources.
After an extensive cleaning and removal of the contaminants in the water, the hotel re–opened on Wednesday.
“The Lac Vieux Desert Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians considers the safety of our guests, staff, and community as our top priority,” stated General Manager of Lac Vieux Desert Resort Casino Kevin Galek. “We’re being told by officials that we went over and above what was required and have exceeded in our remediation efforts. This is part of our commitment to ensure that our guests can continue to enjoy the time they spend at our facilities.”
The casino and restaurant remained open while the hotel was shutdown.
