Carnegie Museum Open House Saturday

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at the Carnegie Museum in Houghton. A special open house will take place Saturday from noon until 4pm.

Suzie Landers and Bubba Megowen from the Downtown Business Association said there will be story-time and an amazing gingerbread display. Megowen said the gingerbread exhibit gets bigger and bigger every year.

The original Santa chair was discovered in the basement of the Swift Hardware store in Houghton. The chair had been used in the upstairs Toyland Store until it closed down in the 1980’s. The chair was stored away and forgotten about.

All it took was some dusting off and the chair will be ready for Santa on Saturday. Landers says the chair holds a special place in the hearts of people because they sat on that chair with Santa as children and now they can put their kids and grandchildren on the same chair. Santa will be at the Carnegie starting at 2pm and you can get your picture taken with him.

Many shops in Downtown Houghton will be open with special offers so you are invited to come and make a day of it.
