Car collides with grader on County Road 480

NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP – One woman was injured after her car collided with a grader Tuesday morning.

At approximately 9 a.m., Michigan State Police Troopers from the Negaunee Post were dispatched to an accident on County Road 480, just outside of the city of Negaunee. A 2001 Honda 2-door, driven by 23-year-old Kayla Gilstorff of Gwinn, rear-ended a Marquette County Road Commission Grader that was plowing the eastbound side of the road.

The driver of the grader, 55-year-old William Vedder of Ishpeming, was not injured in the accident. Gilstorff suffered a broken leg and was taken to U.P. Health System – Marquette by Bell EMS.

A 3-year-old boy in Gilstorff’s vehicle was not injured because he was properly restrained in a child safety seat.

According to police, the accident was a result of the low rising sun, which blinded the Gilstroff from seeing the grader. The Michigan State Police were assisted by Negaunee City Police, Ishpeming City Police, Negaunee Township Fire, Marquette County Rescue 131, and Bell Hospital EMS.
