Canine unit used to find fleeing suspect

LAKE LINDEN — A 28-year-old man was arrested early this morning after leading police on a short vehicle pursuit.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police Calumet Post attempted to make a traffic stop on Calumet St. in Lake Linden at 1:15am for careless driving. The man fled from police, driving down a snowmobile trail at speeds in excess of 60mph.

Troopers lost sight of the vehicle for a short time. They found the vehicle abandoned on a snowmobile trail as the suspect fled on foot.

Police called an MSP canine unit to help search for the suspect. Troopers found him a short time later. The man suffered an ankle injury while running from police.

He was arrested and lodged in the Houghton County Jail for OWI second offense and fleeing and eluding. His name is being withheld until he is arraigned in Houghton County District Court.
