There are a lot of summer camps each year but only one in Houghton County is a matter of life or death: Camp 911.

The most important person on the scene of an accident is the first person to arrive.

Roughly 80 young people will be better prepared to help if one of them happens to be that first person thanks to a 2-day Emergency Preparedness Camp being held in Houghton County.

The 14th annual Camp 911 covers first responder techniques like CPR…how to manage bleeding or chocking…wilderness survival and other safety tips.

What these campers are learning could save a life one day.

The free camp is sponsored by Portage Health, Aspirus Keweenaw and Mercy EMS along with a wide range of community supporters.
