Cake maker on the move
MARQUETTE — A local baker will be moving to a new location in the coming months.
Joe’s Cakes, located in the Landmark Inn in downtown Marquette for the past eight years, is going to be heading across town in October. Owner Joe Heck will be landing at the Huron Mountain Bakery, where he hopes to be able to expand his cake-making services with the help of the facility and its staff.
“I had the opportunity with the help of Huron Mountain and with the new owners of the Landmark to be able to expand the bakery,” said Joe Heck, owner of Joe’s Cakes. “Marquette and the whole U.P. actually, has been so supportive of the business that it was time to make the leap and grow.”
Heck will still be providing the cakes for the three restaurants within the Landmark. To celebrate the expansion, part of the proceeds from sales of September’s edition of his “Cake of the Month” – the Landmark Inn Torte – will go to a special cause.
“Graves Hospitality is donating five dollars for every single whole cake sold to the Marquette Area Women’s Center, which is one of my pet charities. So I’m really excited about that,” Heck added.
