Business Groups Oppose KBIC Gas Station

The Upper Peninsula Petroleum Association made a presentation tonight to the Marquette Township board members.

The group had hopes of convincing the board to oppose Keweenaw Bay Indian Community plans to build a sales tax–free gas station in Marquette Township. If approved, this gas station would be built at the former Three Amigos restaurant site in Marquette Township.

KBIC is given a 6% price advantage over other gasoline retailers. The UPPA is concerned about how this deficit would impact other gas stations and convenience stores in the area.

There was no action taken on this issue at tonight’s meeting.
