ISHPEMING — Running in the dark may sound a little dangerous, but one local church group thinks it’s a pretty bright idea.

The Good News Church in Ishpeming is hosting its annual Glow Run. It’s a 5 and 10k race through the dark past glow in the dark obstacles and black lights. Contestants came dressed to impress in their own neon regalia too.

“The atmosphere here seems to be pretty excited. Everybody’s excited. Last year we had over three hundred racers so we’re planning on over four hundred again this year,” said Assistant Pastor and Race Director Travis Ryan.

While the event sounds like a blast, it also raises money for a good cause. Proceeds from the race will go to Speed the Light. Speed the Light provides vehicles to missionaries bringing food to children, rescuing girls from sex trafficking, and drilling wells in areas without access to clean water.

“We wanted to raise money to show our support and help these people in third world countries that are less fortunate that us. We wanted to do it in a way that the community would have fun. People can come out and have a good time while we’re raising money too,” added Ryan.

The race officially started at 9:00 Friday evening. To find out more about Speed the Light, follow this link.
