HOUGHTON — One of the biggest events of the summer in the Copper Country begins today.

Father’s Day weekend has arrived and that mean’s it’s time for the annual Bridgefest and Bridgefeast celebration.

What began as an event to mark the anniversary of the opening of the Portage Lake Lift Bridge in 1959, Bridgefest has evolved over the years to include several different attractions.

The Houghton Rotary will be serving up their famous seafood, including lobster, along with food from several local restaurants at the Ray Kestner Waterfront Park as part of their annual fundraiser formerly known as Seafoodfest.

The Michigan National Guard Company 1437 will once again showcase their floating bridge. Vendors will be open up along the waterfront and the Bridgefest Parade will step off at 7pm crossing the bridge from Hancock to Houghton.

Activities will continue throughout the weekend and the Jon Davis Memorial Fireworks will light up the sky on Saturday night.
