HOUGHTON-HANCOCK — Evening and early morning commuters in the Copper Country will likely experience some delays next week.
A contractor for the Michigan Department of Transportation will be testing new components on the Portage Lake Lift Bridge connecting Houghton and Hancock, requiring a full closure. The testing period is slated to begin Tuesday and run through Friday. Motorists should expect delays of up to 15 minutes between 7:00 and 11:00 p.m., and up to 30 minutes between 11:00 and 4:00 a.m.
The lower deck will be closed to snowmobile traffic during the tests. The $8.4 million upgrade project began at the end of 2014 and is expected to be complete next month.
