Police situation ends peacefully
NEGAUNEE — Police surrounded a home Wednesday afternoon in the City of Negaunee.
The incident started around 2:00 p.m. on Cherry Street. Police spent several hours talking to a resident through a loud speaker and were able to make contact with the person through a cell phone call with the subject’s parents. The person inside the residence refused to come out of the home.
Around 4:30 p.m., police moved in to talk with the person as they exited finally their home after two hours. Police officers tell ABC 10 a weapon was involved, but did not elaborate on whether or not any specific threats were made. No shots were fired, and the situation ended peacefully.
Law enforcement officers from several agencies were on scene and had weapons drawn as they moved in. Ishpeming Police, Negaunee City Police, Marquette County Sheriff’s Department, and Michigan State Police all responded to the situation.
The situation ended peacefully. The subject was taken from the scene via Negaunee City Police car. A neighbor on the scene said that they have never known the person to be dangerous or angry and were very surprised by the incident.
