Brand new seed library available to residents

MARQUETTE — Residents in the Marquette County area now have an opportunity to visit a library within a library.

Seeds were recently added to the brand new Queen City Seed Library. The seeds can be found in an old card catalog in the Peter White Public Library in Marquette. The idea was inspired by a seed library at the Munising Public Library. With a host like Peter White, the method used for the seed library is similar to how you would check out a book.

“You take the seeds home,” said Mike Riesterer with the Transition Marquette County Seed Co–op, “you plant the seeds, and then you save seeds from your plants at the end of the season, and then you bring those back, and that’s what comes back to the library. We’re trying to establish a community where seeds are an important part of what people think about.”

The organizations responsible for this include Transition Seed Co–op, Marquette Growth, North Farm, and Partridge Creek Farm.
