Boys Basketball: Quarterfinal Preview

One year ago, the Negaunee and North Central boys basketball teams both made the trip to the Breslin Center. Flash forward a year later to tonight, both the Miners and the Jets are one win away from a return trip to East Lansing.

Negaunee is in a Class ‘C’ quarterfinal contest against East Jordan. The Red Devils haven’t been this far in the postseason since 1953. Meanwhile, the Miners are making their fourth straight appearance in the quarterfinal round. East Jordan is a small but quick team according to Miners head coach Mike O’Donnell, and they are coached by former Manistique standout, Darrin Weber.

Tip–off tonight between the Miners and Red Devils from Petoskey high school is set for 7pm.

While the Miners will play in their quarterfinal game in the mitten, North Central will take on Cedarville in a rematch of last year’s Class ‘D’ quarterfinal. The Jets defeated the Trojans that night, 71-57. Cedarville didn’t play particularly well in that game and the Jets know they will get the Trojans best shot.

Tip–off between the Jets and Trojans is at 7pm at Marquette High School.
