Board of Education votes to improve student health

ISHPEMING — Health was the big talking point at Monday night’s Board of Education meeting in Ishpeming.

The board approved a partnership with the Marquette County Health Department to create a youth suicide prevention and early detection program.

“I think we look at the physical health of our students often, but rarely do we think of the emotional or mental health. It’s another way we can partner with the health department to serve our students in another health need,” said Business Manager and Interim Superintendent Anthony Bertucci.

The board also voted to re–approve the service agreement between the school and Health Department, ensuring that the Hematite Health Clinic stays in business. The clinic provides health care to students between the ages of ten and twenty one.
