Blues Fest in need of volunteers

Blues Fest in need of volunteers

Marquette’s 11th annual Blues Fest is right around the corner, but the organization behind the event are still in need of volunteers.

It takes about 200 volunteers to make the event a successful one.  The Marquette Area Blues Society is looking for around 40 more volunteers, mainly to help with the evening shifts Saturday and Sunday nights.

“We need people selling T-shirts, we need people for security, bartending…so there’s a lot of fun positions…that’s why we need volunteers,” Blues Fest volunteer coordinator Sue Minckler said. Most people want to sit that one (shift) out because that’s when the headline acts come out, but actually if they volunteer–like for security, they can be right up next to the stage anyway, and if they’re bartending they can still see the stage so it’s a really good time for volunteers.”

There are other incentives to volunteering at the festival.

Volunteers working one four-hour shift get a free Blues Fest T-shirt, and two four-hour shifts their ticket for the festival will be reimbursed.
