MARQUETTE — Artists of all skill levels are invited to enter their artwork for the 2016 Blueberry Festival Poster Contest.
The Marquette Downtown Development Authority is busy planning events leading up to different summer festivities, including the Blueberry Poster Contest which is now open this year. Like every year, the poster winner will win different prizes and their work will be used in the festival’s marketing.
DDA Promotions and Events Coordinator Tara Laase-McKinney says, “It’ll be taking place in downtown Marquette on Front Street and Washington Street. We end up with thousands of visitors coming down from throughout the city and from across the U.P. People really look forward to it This event has been going on for many, many years.”
A new guideline this year states that the artwork can not include lettering or text, only the artist’s signature. The winning entry will be determined by a combined score based on an online vote open to the public and a panel of judges comprised of local artists, downtown business owners and public officials. Voting will take place Monday, May 9th, through Friday, May 27th.
The entry deadline is Friday, May 6th.
