MUNISING– One local landmark is celebrating a big birthday and is inviting the entire community to come out and join it.

Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is celebrating its 50th anniversary tomorrow at Munising Falls. These celebrations will go from ten through two in the afternoon and will feature a number of different events throughout the day. Starting the day off is a smudging ceremony by a Soo tribe elder.

“It’s really supposed to be about community, trying to get people out and exploring their Park, said Park Ranger Zachary Gostlin, “if we get a lot of the local community to get out and explore what we have here right yard.”

“Munising Falls is a really special area,” Gostlin said, “especially when people just wanna come back here and just relax or if they want to just take in the scenery or if they just want to learn a little bit about the history.”

The event is free to the public and besides the smudging ceremony, the day will also feature a photography workshop and a number of different activates hosted by rangers exploring the different wildlife in the areas. The Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is the first national lakeshore established in the country. The National Parks Services celebrated their 100th anniversary this year.
