Raptor center seeks info on shot owl
MARQUETTE — The Chocolay Raptor Center is offering a $100 reward for information leading to the identification and apprehension of the person who shot a great horned owl.
The shooting took place in downtown Marquette almost a month ago. Unfortunately, the pellet from the gun is stuck inside a wing bone and cannot be removed. The male owl is still in rehab and will take several weeks for the wing to heal and decide if he will be able to fly again.
“The lesson should be that you don’t just go out at gratuitously shoot these wild birds. They’re beautiful and they perform a valuable function for humans and it’s illegal under both federal and state law.”
The Chocolay Raptor Center added that the mother and owlings who were with the injured owl are doing well. To report any information that may lead to finding the shooter, call any of the following numbers.
