Five chorus groups from across the U.P. and Wisconsin are preparing for the annual Big Sing concert Saturday in Ishpeming.

The Negaunee Male Chorus is one of the five groups rehearsing for the event.

The concert will feature gospel songs, sung by individual choruses and as a group.

“It’s got a lot of power and a lot of songs,” Negaunee Male Chorus member Gary Penhale said.  “It’s a lot of fun, it just has a lot of power.”

“It’s a chance to get everyone together and have a lot of fun and provide a good concert for our customers.”

Proceeds from the concert will go towards the chorus’s scholarship fund and expenses.

“It’s a way to keep our membership active, it’s a way to keep our membership growing,” Penhale said.  “The thing is, we’d like to have new members every year, so if there’s any new members I’d like them to come. We usually start the first Thursday after Labor Day and first Thursday after January 1,” Penhale said.

The concert Saturday is at 6 p.m. at W.C. Peterson Auditorium in Ishpeming. Chorus groups from Milwaukee and Rhinelander, Wisconsin, Gwinn, and Munising are participating.

Tickets are $10 dollars, and are available from any chorus member, Jubilee Foods and TruNorth Credit Union in Ishpeming, SuperOne Foods in Negaunee, Tourville West and North in Marquette, and all Peninsula Bank locations.
