ESCANABA — The engines for the new Marquette Energy Center officially arrived in the U.P. today.

The BBC Mont Blanc brought the three Wartsila Units that were built and shipped from Italy to the North Shore Marine Terminal in Escanaba. Those engines cost twenty million dollars each.

The BBC Mont Blanc made its way through places like England and the Soo Locks to get the engines to the U.P. This is the first saltwater vessel to visit the former merchant dock in over eighty years.

“The ship came in very easy, very smooth,” said Lyle Berro of North Shore Marine Terminal & Logistics. “They backed right in and right up to the dock and laid up real nice and easy. Everything went good.”

According to Berro, the three engines will be unloaded onto barges that have been built and shipped to Marquette next week.
