Big Bay Relay roundup

County Road 550 saw a much different stream of traffic this weekend, as both shoulders were filled with runners competing in the Big Bay Relay.

Teams of five shared the 25-mile trek, alternating duties about every mile or so all the way to the shores of Lake Independence.

“The 37th annual Big Bay Relay was a great success,” race director Nicole Dewald said. “The weather turned out to be a little bit challenging, but everybody knows that starting up. It’s an early spring tradition and we had 34 teams compete, and overall, our fastest team was a junior team.”

Team Running Noses took home the best overall time at two hours and 24 minutes, while ABC 10’s very own entry, Team Better Late Than Never, finished in three hours and 28 minutes.

Proceeds from the event will go to help the Skijor Club and the Animoosh Skijor race.
